Wrag Barn’s juniors rounded off their fine season in style with victory in the Wiltshire Junior Knockout Final against Tidworth.
With Tidworth unable to field a full team at Marlborough Golf Club, Wrag Barn found themselves one-up prior to a ball being hit.
The two “live” matches however were initially very close until Wrag Barn’s Guy Drayton and Kyle Campbell won a series of holes in close succession.
Drayton eventually beat Tidworth’s Phoenix Jones 6&4 while Campbell secured a 3&2 win against Mia Law.
The victory itself saw Wrag Barn claim a slice of history as winners of all the county’s club team competitions in 2017.
Having already won the Junior County Champions, Junior Team Shield, Junior Finals Day and Ridgeway League earlier in the season, the Wiltshire Junior Knockout Final success proved the icing on the cake.
Meanwhile in the England semi-final of the Junior Team competition played at Cumberwell Park, Wrag Barn finished runners-up against Bramshaw from Hampshire.
Kyle Campbell shot the best gross score of the day, an excellent round of 71, while Ollie Jeans played to his handicap.
Unfortunately Guy Drayton, Ashleigh Thorne, Lewis Ward and Caitlin Carney came off second best against their Bramshaw counterparts.
During the season the club has been represented by 14 juniors: Lewis Ward (captain), Guy Drayton (vice captain), Ollie Jeans, Kyle Campbell, Ashleigh Thorne, Jarvis Bell, Ollie Clements , Caitlin Carney, Oliver Webb, Eddie Alexander, Seb James, Nathan Miller, Cameron Scott, Kasper Mason-Phelps and junior organiser Richard Ward praised their season’s heroics.
“The juniors are a credit to our club. We are very proud of them all,” said Ward.
“This has been an incredible year for the Wrag Barn junior team as they claimed a clean sweep of the county team events.
“This achievement is unprecedented in the history of Wiltshire junior golf.”
