Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development boss Steve Yeardley is looking forward to seeing his players challenge for a first team berth this season.

With the majority of his side likely to be under 18 players, Yeardley described his team as the perfect stepping stone for Bassett’s youth stars to reach the Hellenic League.

“When the opportunity came last year, it was a no brainer,” said Yeardley, who has made over 500 appearances for Bassett.

“The immediate future is always to get as many players through from the development team up to the first team. There are no actual targets for where we finish in the league, it’s more about having the right ethos that the club represents.

“We have a fantastic youth structure, all the way from under 7’s to 18’s. Majority of my squad will be under 18, hopefully they’ll progress through to the first team.

“We are pretty good at this club at trying to get players through and that won’t change. My players know that this team is a stepping stone to the first team.”
