Swindon Storm American Football Club’s new women’s section has taken a huge stride towards fielding a competitive team.
A host of women have now attended the club’s first two training sessions as interest builds in what will be Swindon’s first women’s American Football team.
Angela Bartram has spearheaded the project and already attracted around 20 women to training at the club’s Southbrook Rec home.
She said: “Finally last week we had our first training session and it is going quite well.
“We’re just saying to everyone just come along and have a go. You don’t even need to know the rules of the game because we’re all learning from scratch.
“It’s one of those games where you have lots of different positions and different positions suit different builds and different types of people.”
While this summer will be used to build the side, the ultimate aim is to field a competitive women’s team under the Storm banner, something which could happen later this year or early 2022.
Storm’s women’s side train on Saturday’s from 1pm at Southbrook Rec, Pinehurst Road and you can find out more by visit the club’s social media platforms or website www.swindonstorm.org
