Swindon Shock Basketball Club ensured they finished the year on a high as they recorded back-to-back victories.

Shock’s first win came in the Wessex League Division Two where their second string, led by Mark James, beat Basingstoke Blizzard 107-49.

The victory also gave a host of Shock’s young players extensive game time ahead of their National League derby against Oxford Steelers on Saturday.

Young point guard Suloachan Limbu got Swindon off to a furious start dishing out countless assists to Mark James and Simon Kearney.

Center Daniel Broad-Drake, who is in his second year of playing basketball, displayed his talent by pouring in 10 points and coming up with key rebounds and defensive stops.

Despite Shock leading by as many as 13 points, Oxford stood strong and made a late fourth quarter run. Oxford’s hopes of a comeback though were dashed by James, as he hit form from the three-point line. Limbu and James closed the game out with a pair of free throws as Shock won 72 to 68.

James led Shock’s points scorers with 30pts while Simon Kearney added 16.

Head coach David Colclough was delighted with both wins and is looking forward to building on the successes in 2020. He said: “It’s nice to go into the break with a win in both leagues.

“We have finished 2019 like we started with wins. Now we need to build on it.”

Shock open up local league play on the January 2nd in an attempt to get to the cup quarter finals when they host Wolfpack Mohegans.

The National League return to action with back-to-back home matches on January 11th and 12th.
