Watch highlights from Swindon Shock’s 92-71 success against Bognor Pirates in the National Basketball League Division Three South West.
Swindon Shock got off to another tremendous start as they jumped into a six-point lead courtesy of two quick three-pointers from Simon Kearney.
Although Bognor Pirates took a brief lead in the first, Shock skipper David Colclough made a tactical switch to four guards and one big man to thwart the visitors’ advances.
Shock won the opening quarter 32-23 and led 47-39 at half-time. A dominant third quarter saw them win it 26-11 to put them firmly in control going into the final quarter.
Bognor edged the fourth quarter 21-19 but it was Shock’s night as they clinched a 21-point success and made it five wins in a row.
Swindon’s high flying guard Mark James delivered 28 points including key assists that got the team going while every player got on the score sheet.
Colcough praised the performance, saying: “I like the defensive effort from our guys today.
“It was nice to see us put up 32 points in the first quarter but you always want to keep your opponent below the 20-mark and that didn’t happen early.
“I think this was our most complete game of the year. We ended the year on a couple of wins and that has carried over to start the second half of the season.
“We held Bognor to 16 in the second and 11 points in the third quarter. But more importantly we showed a killer instinct to put a game away.
“Again its nice to see everyone on the score sheet and a good balance of scoring at that. Mark James led the team with 28pts, Simon Kearny 25, Mayowa Obamkin 10, Aleksander Kreteski 9 and Sulochan Limbu 8.
“It puts pressure on a defence to guard everyone heavily when you get scoring like that. But more importantly our guys played unselfish basketball.
“I’m looking forward to see where we go from here.”
Shock’s next game is in the Karl Taylor plate semi-final, against Wessex League Division One Slough Scorpions on Thursday night at Oakfield Campus (8.15pm tip).
