Marlborough Golf Club’s new general manager Steve Scott-Bowen believes he has joined one of the most immaculate and friendly clubs in the South West.

Scott-Bowen has over 28 years experience in golf management which includes his last position which was at the prestigious Cardiff Golf Club.

Marlborough’s new general manager is excited about the task ahead of him and plans to create a special experience for members and everyone who visits the golf club.

This weekend’s Club Championships was Scott-Bowen’s first chance to put his mark on the club as he created a PGA Tour like atmosphere with golfers announced on to the tee and given a host of freebies.

Talking about the Championships, Scott-Bowen told Your Sport Swindon: “We wanted to give a kind of PGA Tour feel. We’ve tried really hard to make this a very special event to make members feel just that little bit special than they normally would.”

And on his new position, Scott-Bowen admitted he was extremely excited about the challenges ahead.

“It’s very exciting,” said Scott-Bowen. “We have a plan. We have a strategy. Our goal is to maintain a beautiful golf course and maintain the friendliness of the club. Coming here it is fair and clear to say it is the friendliest golf club I’ve ever worked in.

“Members are giving us feedback that the course is immaculate and the greens are the best they’ve ever been. The whole vibe is quite buoyant the club which is exciting.

“Our focus is very much on member experience and making them feel really part of the place. We are going to really focus on engaging with members and make them feel that this is the club they want to stay at.”

After a bleak start to 2020 following the Covid-19 pandemic, Marlborough Golf Club has had an influx of new members with over 70 joining in the last couple of months.

It’s current membership is in the 700’s and the course is busier than ever. While the clubhouse is currently closed due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the club are running a half-way house for all golfers.
