Royal Wootton Bassett Town boss Sam Collier believes the recipe for success this coming season is to only have players at the club who genuinely want to be at the club.
Collier hinted that last season’s inconsistent form was largely down to not bringing in the right players and he says he only wants players who “want to be here”.
Whilst experienced players such as Jon Beedon, Chris Taylor and TJ Bohane have put pen to paper on permanent deals at the club, Collier also intends to re-sign the best performers from last season’s squad whilst also giving youth players such as Ben Paul, Bailey Gallagher and Charlie McCuish a chance to impress.
Speaking to Your Sport’s George Stratford, Collier said: “To get the green light that we can train again is pleasing.
“I think we got a bit carried away pre-season and made some changes that we didn’t need to make. Back end of last season we certainly got it back, we got the right players in.
“It’s all about bringing them back and bringing in a few fresh faces that want to be here.
“First and foremost we need to improve on last season, that’s a given. The start of the year was poor, but the second half of the year, if we had played like that throughout the whole season then I think we’d have finished in the top six or seven, something that hasn’t happened at this club. If we can get in and around those places then I think we’ll be happy.”
