What this fantastic save from the local derby between Shrivenham and Royal Wootton Bassett Town on Tuesday night.
Goals from Steve Robertson, Antonio Gerrish and Jack Allan saw Shrivenham claim the bragging rights in their local derby at home to Royal Wootton Bassett Town on Tuesday night.
A scrappy first half finished 0-0 with Shrivenham arguably having the more clear cut chances to score the opener.
The breakthrough eventually arrived courtesy of a controversial penalty decision after Shrivvy’s Jack Allan was adjudged to have been fouled inside the Bassett box.
Nick Stanley stepped up to take the penalty but saw his effort saved by Matt Bulman. The rebound though fell to Steve Robertson who fired home to save Stanley’s blushes.
Bassett then came agonisingly close to levelling, denied only by a superb point-blank save from Curtis Meare and the miss proved crucial as Shrivvy doubled their lead through Antonio Gerrish.
Brad Pagliaroli then gave Bassett hope with a fantastic long-range strike but as the visitors pushed for an equaliser, Shrivvy caught them on the break, Jack Allan showing his strength to hold off the defender before rounding Bulman to score.
The win lifts Shrivenham up to fifth in the Hellenic Premier Division, meanwhile Bassett are left languishing third from bottom.
