Stuart Fleetwood was delighted to hit the winner against Gosport Borough, a goal that marked his return to the Swindon Supermarine starting line-up.
Such is the competition for places in Supermarine’s attacking positions, Fleetwood has found himself on the bench in recent weeks and the striker admitted he has been “chomping at the bit” to get a start.
Reflecting on his winning goal, Fleetwood claimed he couldn’t have hit it any better, saying: “It has fallen on the edge of the box and I didn’t really want to bring it down I was under a bit of pressure so I thought I’ll have a swing at it and it’s come right out of the middle of my foot and flown in. It was nice to see it nestle in.
“Gosport are a good side, they have some really good players. Backs against the wall I think we did a great job. I don’t think they can have too many complaints about the result. We defended like our lives depended on it.”
Supermarine return to action on Saturday when they travel to Harrow Borough.
