Cirencester Town boss Charlie Griffin felt Tuesday night’s pre-season friendly was a fantastic test for his side ahead of the new season ahead.
Griffin’s side went down 4-3 at the Corinium Stadium but the performance itself, against a side one division higher, impressed the Cirencester Town boss.
“We’ve gone into a game where we got tested straight away, they are a league higher, it is always a good test when you are in a game where you are not going to get a lot of the ball,” said Griffin.
“I thought the boys done well tonight. I’m pleased with how we have ended the game with a lot of young lads and a lot of trialists.”
“They have put a shift in tonight.”
Harry Williams gave Supermarine the lead on just nine minutes only for Cirencester to level a minute later when Aidan Bennett’s cross was deflected pass Martin Horsell.
Tommy Ouldridge gave Cirencester the lead on 18 minutes before Brad Hooper levelled on the half hour from the penalty spot.
A spectacular strike from Dave Bampton made it 3-2 on the hour before Joe Shepherd scored a rare goal on 72 minutes to extend Marine’s lead.
Three minutes later Jack Freeman made it 4-3 to Ciren but despite pressing for an equaliser, the hosts fell just short on the final whistle.
