Swindon St George’s new chairman Richard White believes exciting times are ahead for the club as they enter something of a new era.
Along with the White appointment as chairman, the club has a completely new management team which will be led by their new head coach Neil Loader.
The club has also moved venue, with Swindon Rugby Club now set to host their home matches.
It’s also a new era for the club as the first team will compete in the Southern Conference – something which represents a big step up for the St George.
White is excited about the season ahead, which begins in just nine days time.
“Obviously a few things went on behind the scenes,” said White. “It’s something that was a little unexpected really. Obviously I’m normally on the player side of stuff but we’ve had a little bit of stuff happening off the field and it was a position that had to be filled. I am probably the longest serving player at the club so it kind of made sense that I took over.
“It is an exciting time really. Our 1’s have just gone up to the Southern Conference, which is a new venture for the club as a whole, so that is an exciting prospect. Our 2’s are still in the West of England, so we are looking to try and keep a strong presence there.
“Obviously Ben (Whincup) stepped down last year which is a massive shame because he brought a lot to the club but I am personally a little bit excited about the new coaching set-up we’ve got.
“In my opinion we have got the best coach in the South West, be that league or union, hands down, his pedigree speaks for itself. The attacking brand of rugby that he likes to deliver is going ot make our backs very excited.
“We have got the foundations, now it is down to the players to deliver.”
