Former Swindon Supermarine and Hungerford star Mark Draycott has launched a new initiative focused on teaching youngsters essential first aid skills.
The first sessions took place this week during Draycott Sports Camp at Oakhurst School in North Swindon.
Draycott has called the initiative DSC Safe and the youngsters were shown basic first aid skills such as using the recovery position, CPR, how to deal with someone who is choking and how to call the emergency services.
“It is a really proud day for us,” said Draycott. “DSC Safe is a new initiative which has basically been inspired by a paediatric course that some of our staff have done recently.
“I think the obvious thing that I came away with was why can’t our kids get involved with this and soak up some of the same knowledge. They are sponges at this age and today has proved that.
“We are delighted with how it has gone, we have had 200 children here today who will all take away a certificate and some really important training with they can take away.”
The initiative has also received the backing of local MP Justin Tomlinson and Draycott hope to make the course a regular feature in the area.
