Team Swindon Basketball Club’s head coach Antonio Wilburn says winning the Karl Taylor Cup is “just the beginning” for the club.

Team Swindon stormed to a 91-77 success against Reading Rockets as the club lifted silverware in their maiden inaugural season.

Wilburn himself was named Most Valuable Player in the final, scoring 22 points during his match-winning performance but he hailed the side for clinching the first piece of silverware for the club which was only formed this season.

“It means a lot,” said Wilburn. “It’s obviously the first piece of silverware that we wanted to win this season and we obviously have two more that we want to win, so it’s just the beginning.

“At half-time I think we were down one point but the guys came together and pulled together for the win.”

Spencer Wells top scored for Team Swindon with 28 points while Matt North scored 14 points and Matt Ford 11 points.

Also scoring was Ollie Swann (six points), Ally Tilney (four points), Lee Hobbis (three points) and Sam Newman (two points).

The Karl Taylor Cup champions return to action on Saturday when they host Woodley Harriers in the Wessex League Division One.

Team Swindon’s amazing season has seen them win every single game and they will be hoping to secure a 10th straight league success.

Tip off is 4.30pm on Saturday at The Deanery Academy in Wichelstowe.
