Swindon St George head coach Ben Whincup believes the club’s partnership with National League outfit Coventry Bears can help his side reach new heights.
Earlier this week the club announced that they had secured a link-up with Coventry Bears which will provide a dual pathway for players from both clubs.
Whincup, who is also assistant coach at Coventry Bears, hopes the deal will help to attract more players to Swindon who aspire to reach their full potential in the sport.
Ultimately the partnership will offer all Swindon St George players a pathway to try and force their way into the reckoning at the League One side.
“I wanted to bring a real pathway that is really there and accessible especially with me being involved with both clubs hopefully these boys will get access to what life will be like at League One working under me and it’ll be an easy transition.
“Working both jobs is going to be quite a challenge, I’ve definitely got a lot on this year. Stepping up and coaching at League One has always been a massive ambition of mine but it didn’t mean I wanted to step back on the commitments I’d already made to Swindon. Matches and training are on different days. It’s basically a summer of rugby league, four or five days a week, which is perfect for me.
“I’m hoping some of the boys will be able to step up and hopefully it gives them the confidence in themselves that it is achievable.”
