Swindon & District Netball League Round-up.
Delta Reds B 37 Nationwide D 35 (Division Five)
Both sides knew this was going to be a tough match as only a goal separated the teams when they met earlier this season. This proved to be the case with both teams playing well and the first quarter ending nine goals apiece. Delta’s attack worked smoothly, with excellent feeds into the shooters and by half time they had taken a one-goal lead. The next quarter was won by Nationwide as they levelled the scores at 28 apiece. In the last quarter Nationwide’s defence fought hard to close down the Delta attack, but in the end Delta fought on to win by 37-35. Deb Drury was named player of the match
RWB A 34 Lawn D 33 (Division Three)
Royal Wootton Bassett A played Lawn D in Division Three and it proved to be a tight game. Lawn led for the majority of the game, but some strong defensive play throughout the court saw Bassett A take the win 34-33. Charly Giles was named player of the match for Bassett.
RWB B 23 Purton 35 (Division Four)
Royal Wootton Bassett B faced Purton who defended well to frustrate their rivals Despite a strong effort from Bassett, Purton took the win 35-23. Jessica Smith was given player of the match for Bassett.
RWB C 30 Abbeymeads C 47 (Division Four)
Bassett fought hard against Abbeymeads B but their rivals led throughout the match. Abbeymeads eventually secured a 47-30 win. Player of the match for Bassett was awarded to Poppy Beard.
Fairford A 42 RTM 62 (Division Two)
This fixture pitched together the two sides at the top of the table and it was RTM, assisted by numerous turnovers, who edged in front at the end of the first quarter. Fairford kept up the pace and managed to stay within 10 after the first half but RTM came out strong after the break. RTM’s Goal Defence moved fluidly down the court with their Goal Shooter rarely missing. Despite Fairford’s best efforts, RTM won the game convincingly and set themselves up for a likely promotion to Division One. Player of the match for Fairford was Kate Roberts.
