Swindon & District Netball League Round-up.
Delta Reds B 42 Fairford C 39
Player of the Match: Jade Maccready (GD)
This was an evenly-matched game, with Delta making the better start to end the first quarter, four goals up. The second quarter belonged to Fairford however, with great work by their shooters taking them to within a goal of Delta at half time. By the start of the final quarter, Delta had added just one extra goal, and as the last quarter progressed Fairford, looking for their first win of the season, levelled the scores. Sensing the danger, Delta fought back to win by 42-39, meaning that this week as a club all three Delta teams took home maximum points.
Royal Wootton Bassett A 42 Faringdon 23
Player of the Match: Liz Kelly
Royal Wootton Bassett A played Faringdon in Division Three. Bassett and Faringdon were close throughout the first half with lots of turnovers on each side. Wootton Bassett defended strongly in the second half and won 42-23. Liz Kelly was named player of the match for Bassett.
Royal Wootton Bassett B 34 Coleview 24
Player of the Match: Holly Aitkenhead
It was a close game for Wootton Bassett’s B team this week when they faced Coleview. It was a tough game throughout and Coleview particularly applied pressure to Bassett’s shooters. Bassett however dug deep and took the win 34-24, finishing the first half of the season in a fantastic position. Well done to Holly Aitkenhead for once again getting player of the match.
Royal Wootton Bassett C 52 Jets B 21
Player of the Match: Claire Arthur
Royal Wootton Bassett C played Jets B in Division Four. Bassett maintained the lead throughout the match with some brilliant teamwork across all areas of the court. This resulted in a win for Bassett 52-21. Claire Arthur was named player of the match for Bassett.
Lawn A 56 Burmah A 33
Player of the Match: Fearne Maine WA
Lawn A made a very strong start scoring from the first centre pass turnover. They continued to apply pressure throughout the game scoring from the many interceptions through court.
Teams: Lawn D 50 Moredon B 26
Player of the Match: Phoebe Thompson GA
With a depleted team and after a slow first quarter, Lawn gained momentum and were able to pull ahead, turning interceptions to goals. Some strong defensive work in the circle and down the court allowed Lawn to continue this pattern as they grabbed victory.
Lawn E 22 Pinehurst C 32
Player of the Match: Lily Deighton GA
Lawn E faced the more experienced Pinehurst team but this didn’t deter Lawn from giving their all against seasoned players. Great defensive work down court allowed the team to stay within 10 goals.
Pinehurst 44 Crossbow 59
Score: 44 – 59
Players of the Match: Sarah Sabin and Brogan Jones
Pinehurst started the game slowly and were trailing 17-6 after the first quarter. Crossbow’s defence was physical throughout the court and proved a challenge for Pinehurst in the first 30 minutes. After a tough first half, Pinehurst went on to win the second half of the game with a strong defensive performance and some clever attacking play resulted in a comeback, seeing Pinehurst challenge Crossbow for the game. Unfortunately, this came a little too late. Crossbow managed to use the momentum they gained from the start to carry them through to win the game 59-44. Whilst a disappointing loss for Pinehurst, there were some great spells of netball played which Pinehurst will be looking to take into next week’s game against Team Bath. Sarah Sabin (GD/GA) was named Player of Match by her teammates and Brogan Jones (C) was selected as Player of the match for Pinehurst by Crossbows.
