Nationwide B ensured they were top of the tree at Christmas courtesy of a 62-31 win against Burmah B in Division Two of the Swindon & District Netball League.
Having slipped to their first defeat of the season in the previous game, it was a return to form for the formidable Nationwide team, who led by 11 goals at half-time.
Nationwide dominated the second half while Burmah’s attacking players struggled to break through a resolute defensive wall led by goalkeeper Alli Mckie and player-of-the-match Tiffany Wigmore (goal defence).
Superb attacking play by Sian Corbyn and Georgie Brain saw Nationwide score a sensational 62 goals en route to a convincing win.
The victory keeps Nationwide top of the division by three points from Lawn B, who also won, beating Raychem C 67-31.
Lawn took the lead from the start and didn’t look back thanks to some excellent defending and mid-court play.
A spirited effort from Raychem could not stem the goals from Lawn and the player-of-the-match award went to Hannah Simpson for her excellent drives to the goal post and superb shooting and rebounding.
Fairford A finished the year with a win as they beat Purton 44-35.
Both teams produced a quality demonstration of shooting as Fairford took a slim lead at the end of the first quarter.
Fairford continued to pull ahead thereafter although Purton did fight back to close the gap in the final quarter and salvage a point from the match.
Wing defence Charlotte Cohoon was player of the match for Fairford.
RTM lead the way in Division Three after a 55-16 win against Croft C but Royal Wootton Bassett A remain on their heels after beating Lawn C.
Lawn C were forced to field a depleted side with only three of their usual players available and the rest playing up from the Division Five side.
Trailing by just four goals after the first quarter, Lawn continued to attack before Bassett found their form and surged ahead to a 60-39 win.
Wing attack Gemma Giles was player of the match for Lawn.
In the Division Four, Delta Reds B and Jets could only be split by the smallest of margins.
Jets edged ahead by two in the first quarter before Delta’s confident shooting saw them take the lead by one goal at the break.
Playing with confidence, Delta continued to attack with Chris Thackray at centre teaming up well with Deb Drury as they surged into a 28-24 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Jets though fought back in the final quarter, as their accurate shooting saw them snatch the lead and 36-35 victory in the final minutes.
Chris Thackray was player of the match for Delta.
Leading the way at the top of the table in Division Four is Faringdon, who beat Abbey B 39-9.
Royal Wootton Bassett C finished the year on top of Division Five after beating Nationwide D 45-23.
Moredon C had a tough battle against Pinehurst D and despite losing came away with a point in a 26-18 defeat.
Both teams fought hard but they were also contending the blustery weather conditions.
Moredon’s player of the match was Tya, also their youngest player, who was outstanding at goal defence.
Raychem A continued their dominance of Division One thanks to a 85-34 win against Moredon A, a victory which sees them top the table by eight points.
Elsewhere in the division, Nationwide A beat Lawn A 39-20.
Meeting for the second time this season, Lawn produced some excellent play but it wasn’t enough to stop Nationwide from wrapping up a fine victory.
