Hundreds of youth football teams will head to Highworth Town Football Club this weekend as the club hosts their 26th annual six-a-side tournament, writes Nick Taylor.
The event is one of the biggest youth football six-a-side tournaments in the south west and takes place on Saturday and Sunday from 9am at the Save On Tyres Stadium.
With Highworth Town recently promoted to the Southern League West, having finished third in the Hellenic League Premier, the tournament acts as a major fundraiser for the club.
Over 240 teams are expected to participate over the two days and will arrive from all counties all over the south including Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hampshire and Wales.
Saturday morning will see the Under 9’s, 10’s and 11’s kick off their tournaments from 9am and will be followed by the Under 12’s, U13’s and U14’s from 2pm.
Sunday’s proceedings, with a revised five-a-side format including two substitutes, will see the Under 15’s and 16’s competitions begin at 9am while the Under 7’s and U8’s start at 2pm.
As well as the football on show, there will also be a funfair, various stalls, refreshments and a licensed bar.
Car parking will be available next door at Highworth Town Juniors Football Club site.
