Broome Manor Golf Club’s juniors took part in another fantastic Tiger Cup to mark the seventh year of the competition.
The club’s juniors are split into two teams, Europe and USA, and compete in a Ryder Cup style format to contest the Tiger Cup trophy.
This year also marked the final year as captains for Brendan O’Neill and Paul Turland, who had skippered the sides for the last four years.
Brendan O’Neill’s USA side stormed to a healthy 8.5-3.5 lead after two sessions but Europe weren’t finished and staged a superb comeback in the singles.
Skipper Paul Turland showed his team the way as he claimed the first point as he beat O’Neill two up.
Europe then won five of the next seven matches as they closed the gap on USA.
However, USA’s Sammy Walls calmed her side’s nerves to win her match before Jamie Daglish won the vital, match-winning point.
USA eventually claimed a 13-11 victory to lift the Tiger Cup title.
Four players recorded 100 per cent records in their matches over the weekend, with Sammy Walls, James Emanuel, Jamie Daglish and Lewy Hayward all winning three out of three matches.
Sammy Walls won the ‘Postman’ award which recognises the most valuable player at the event.
Event organiser Lee Hayward hailed another successful event, saying: “A massive thank you to my two captains Paul Turland and Brendan O’Neill especially as this was their last year.
“Boy was it a good one. We had some tough conditions to play but we had a gala dinner full of good cheer and messages from European Tour players along the way.
“This year’s Tiger Cup was a golfing spectacular, with some big leads, great matches and comebacks.
“I’d like to say a massive thank you to all that came along to support the event and it really does make all the hard work worth while. Here’s to next year!”
