After losing three games in a row, Shock were determined not to let a fourth game slip away in the final 30 seconds.
Strong performance from Antonio Wilburn handled the Cardiff City pressure with ease as he got the entire team involved into a scoring campaign that allowed Swindon to walk away with victory.
Shock began the game with a furious pace jumping out to a 32-18 lead before cooling off late in the second quarter.
With Wilburn on the bench to conserve his energy, Cardiff finished the quarter with a 9-3 run to close Shocks lead to 48-47.
With the third quarter level at 18-18 the big men began to dominate on the boards as Matic Iskra and Matt Ford both scored 12 points.
Key baskets by Matt North and Alistair Tilney kept Shock ahead before the Combination of Wilburn and Dominic Sajovic sealed the game.
Wilburn said after the game, “We needed this, but I am glad our team got themselves in a position to score, because I am looking for them and I don’t want our guys hiding in the corners during crunch time.”
Coach David Colclough also added, “Normally we are running out of steam at the end of the game as we have been playing short of two very strong players.
“But we have really come together and our bench is providing not only a defensive spark but valuable rest time for our starters.”
If Shock can build on the win next week they will find themselves in the play-off picture once again before the halfway break.
