Four years ago, Swindon Town Football in the Community became the first English professional football club to launch a scheme called Football Fans In Training.
The 12-week programme educates its participants to live a healthier lifestyle by eating properly and becoming more active and runs in conjunction with Public Health Swindon and Swindon Borough Council.
Back in September last year, Dave Potts signed up to the Football Fans In Training course and we followed his journey to a healthier life.
At the start of the course, Dave weighed 109.4kg and had a waistline of 114cm. His blood pressure reading was higher than average at 134/84.
Along with the 30 other participants on the course, Dave’s main aim was to lose weight and bring his blood pressure down.
During the course, the Swindon Town Football in the Community team educate the group on developing a healthier lifestyle by controlling what they eat, portion size and encouraging more exercise.
Twelve weeks later, Dave proved to be the perfect case study for us after he was announced as the “Biggest Loser” of the course – a title which meant he had lost the most weight of the whole group.
But while Dave had lost a staggering 17kg in weight and 16cm off his waistline, the best news was that everyone on the Football Fans In Training had lost weight and in turned developed a healthier lifestyle.
