Continuing on with our Flashback series, we take a look back on Swindon Town bouncing back from conceding an early goal to clinch a thrilling 4-3 win against Poole sealing their first victory of the season in the FA Women’s National League Division 1 South West.
The match itself attracted 336 supporters to Swindon Town Football Club’s County Ground, a figure which was a new record for Swindon Town Women.
But the hosts failed to get off to the perfect start as visiting Poole Town nicked the first goal on just two minutes.
Swindon hit back quickly though and levelled courtesy of a fine finish from Alice Telling from a Helena Diaz-Butcher centre.
Diaz-Butcher then set up Suze Berry to score on 23 minutes as Town turned the game around in their favour.
Danielle Hull then pulled off two fine saves to deny Poole an equaliser and give Swindon a 2-1 lead at the break.
Poole though refused to give up and levelled just six minutes after half-time, scoring from close range.
This goal sparked Swindon into life and shortly after the hour mark, the hosts struck twice in quick succession to go 4-2 up.
First, Sarah Doige drove a loose ball home before the dangerous Diaz-Butcher scored a superb goal, fully deserved after her fantastic performance on the day.
The drama wasn’t over though and Poole hit back as the ball sneaked past Town’s near post direct from a corner, a goal which sparked a nervy last few minutes for the home side.
Zoe Ridley had two glorious chances to calm Town’s nerves in the dying minutes but in the end, Swindon held on for a superb 4-3 win.
