Swindon Town Ladies’ boss Steve Robertson was left frustrated by the referee’s decision to call off his side’s FA Cup first round match at Southampton late in the day.
The referee was unhappy with a particular corner of the pitch at AFC Totton’s Testwood Stadium which he believed was still hard after an overnight frost.
And after an initial delay to kick-off of around 20 minutes, the match was eventually postponed.
“There was a corner of the pitch, about three yards, and he was adamant it was too hard to play,” Robertson said.
“They tried putting loads of water on it to soften it up and he still wasn’t very happy with it.
“We asked him to wait to see if it would thaw out because the patch was literally the size of my left hand.
“It’s frustrating but there’s not a lot you can do because he’s the person who’s got to decide.
“It was never a game that should’ve been called off, we could have played it ten times over.”
The match has swiftly been rearranged for next Sunday, 2pm kick off, meaning Town’s home league match against West Ham will make way.
