Swindon Town Football in the Community’s U16 Girls stormed to a 4-1 victory against Swedish outfit Rodeby in their opening match of the Gothia Cup.

A hat-trick from the prolific Sophie Roberts plus one from Emily Arrell secured a fantastic opening win in their Group 18 clash.

Despite a slightly nervous start which saw goalkeeper Lauren Doble pull off a crucial save, it wasn’t long before the pace and trickery of Roberts and Arrell threatened the Rodeby defence.

Shortly after Roberts went agonisingly close to scoring the opening goal, she followed up her own shot to put Town in front.

Holding onto their 1-0 lead at the break, Roberts struck again just minutes after the restart.

Roberts then scored her hat-trick in style, firing over the keeper from long range.

Less than a minute later Rodeby pulled a goal back but it wasn’t long before Arrell completed the win as she fired home Swindon’s fourth goal of the game.

Swindon lie second in the group behind their next opponents, Runar IL from Norway, who won their opening match 8-1.
