Swindon Ladies will sit top of Premier Division 2A in the West Clubs Women’s Hockey League at Christmas after extending their unbeaten run to seven on Saturday.
The 2-1 victory at Gloucester 2s ensures Swindon will be a point clear of nearest challengers Team Bath Buccaneers 2s heading into the festive break.
Chloe Lewis opened the scoring for Swindon as she deflected in Adriana Boullosa’s far post cross.
And it was the same combination that saw the visitors extend their lead in the second half as Boullosa found Lewis once again to make it 2-0.
The hosts were able to bag a late consolation but it wasn’t enough to stop Swindon continuing their unbeaten run stretching back to late September.
Meanwhile, Swindon 2s suffered a heavy 13-0 home defeat at the hands of Wessex Division One leaders Devizes.
Also in Wessex Division One, Royal Wootton Bassett 2s played out a 0-0 draw with Salisbury 3s.
In Wessex Division Three, league leaders Royal Wootton Bassett 3s slipped to only their second defeat of the campaign against Wells City Acorns.
Bassett were beaten 3-1 but still sit at the summit of the standings and are three points clear of Chippenham 4s who were also beaten at the weekend.
