Swindon were edged out by West Wilts in their top-of-the-table clash in the GoCrea8 Hockey League Conference North Division.

The 4-2 defeat was Swindon’s first since mid-Ocotber when they were narrowly beaten 2-1 at Marlborough.

Swindon, who travelled with only 11 players, fell behind behind early as Mark Brothers was found by James Baker at the back post to notch the game’s opener.

The home side doubled their lead when Baker got himself on the score sheet before the visitors rallied.

A mistake from Harry Woolway allowed Thomas Lentschner to halve the deficit before Tom Wickens hauled Swindon level at half time.

However the hosts took control once again in the second period with goals from Nick Lemon and Sha Aissaoui ensuring West Wilts moved five points clear at the summit.

Meanwhile, in East Central Division One, Swindon A and West Wilts A battled out a thrilling 4-4 draw in their own top-of-the-table tussle.

The result maintains Swindon’s four-point cushion at the top of the standings.

In the Central Two Division, Royal Wootton Bassett top the standings following their 5-2 win at Westbury & United Banks B.

Mark Turner fired Bassett to victory with a hat-trick whilst there was also a brace from Matt Daniell to secure the points.

Royal Wootton Bassett A also enjoyed a victory, winning their East Central Division One clash with Chippenham B 4-0.

Liam Hiles, Nevan Erry, Anthony Matthews and Martyn Chivers were all on the score sheet as Bassett secured a comfortable triumph.

Meanwhile, Royal Wootton Bassett B were narrowly beaten 1-0 at Marlborough B with Alex Ford’s late goal enough to win the East Central Division Two match.

In the Central Two Division, North Wilts were 3-2 home winners over Chippenham A to earn back-to-back wins.

It was also a successful weekend for North Wilts A who earned a narrow 2-1 success at West Wilts B.
