Paddy Fitzpatrick will reveal the game plan that his boxer Ryan Martin will adopt against Michael McKinson prior to the duo’s WBC World Youth title fight in April.
The two welterweights will contest the prestigious title at Swindon’s Oasis Leisure Centre on April 8th and Fitzpatrick confirmed that his camp will reveal their tactics a week before the fight.
Such a ploy would be very reminiscent of the mind games Fitzpatrick and his then boxer George Groves used in their first world title fight against Carl Froch.
Fitzpatrick said he expects rival McKinson to “start strong” but says they have a plan for that outcome and believes his boxer Martin has the beating of the Portsmouth boxer.
“I do think that Michael is going to start aggressive, he is going to come out strong,” said Fitzpatrick. “We will reveal the tactics the week before the fight. We will reveal a little bit closer because it has a purpose.
“I think Michael is going to come out and start strong but we have got something for that.”
Fitzpatrick is confident that Martin will be walking away with the WBC World Youth title but he admitted McKinson, whose record is 10-0, has got their full attention and will be given their full respect.
“He is 10-0 isn’t he, Ryan is 7-0, he’s undefeated,” added Fitzpatrick.
“He’s got our full attention and our full respect. That’s eactly the way we’ll treat him and I think it’s the only way to treat him until we’ve done our job.
“This is a good fight. It is two undefeated men willing to take a chance in order to be able to move forward with their careers. Usually you don’t see guys 10-0 and 7-0 fighting each other, usually they are avoiding each other.
“He’s not coming up here to fill in he’s coming up here because he has the beating of Ryan, we’ve got this fight with him because we have the beating of him.”
